The jedi might not have know the symbol, or might not have recognized it. Remember, in the expanded universe, it has been 1000 years since the jedi last had contact with the sith.

1000 years is that long ?
we have images that are more than 3000 years old.
Sun tsu "art of war" was written 1000 years BC.
if the jedi pass theyre knowledge freely from master to padwan, im shure they would also teach that significant detail.

Or the sith might have delibrately changed the symbol so that the jedi would not recognize it. That would be consistent with the new sith's emphasis on stealth.

I have been doing some poking around in the starwars.com, and for what i have seen of the part dedicated to Ep.III, the real must of the sith is that huge wall releif that palpatine has in the office.
To make a crude conparison, its like the tapestry of hastings, telling past stories and making revelations of the future, but doesnt have that much definition.

I think you are talking about the assassi artwork. That could be art that appeals to sith.

I thought I'd put the artwork up, so others can see it. Not everyone may know the piece you're talking about. At least, I think this is the Massassi art you're referring to. LOL

I wonder where this art "REALLY" comes from.

Lord Seti, your the man.
Yes, this is what I was talking about.
If you take a close look at it, you can even see "obi-wan" riding the lizard.
To me, this holds the key to all of what this thread is all about.

Because it is in the movie, in palpatines quarters, I guess.

If you look at it, it kind of makes sense.

It looks like the red circle symbol with the horizontal flames coming out, superimposed upon a 2 dimensional representation of a globe.

I figure, its in the movie, so its endorced by lucas, so its our best candidate.

Think. It really doesn't make sense. If it was a Sith symbol, first of all, Palpatine would't post it in his personal quarters for everyone to see, and second Anakin would discover him to be Darth Sidious at the very beginning....everybody would!

It kinda looks like an attempt to illustrate the Globe with a nucleus in the middle in a three-dimensional way... I don't think it has any kind of relation to the Sith.
If it did, there would be some records (at least a few) about it. If there was, the Jedi had a chance to dismantle Sidious. He would't risk that much...

In regards to the Jedi recognizing the symbol and the 1000yrs since they had open contact with the Sith, it's still seems to me that the Jedi are just as arrogant as they are at the time of the game KOTOR II. For those unfamiliar with it, the main character was exiled after coming back from the Mandolorian Wars. He was the only jedi to return to face trial for having disobeyed the council. This was a chance for the jedi to find out why so many turned their backs on the Jedi teachings, whether it was the fault of the teachers or a flaw in the teachings themselves. Instead they didn't want to face the possible truth and decided to sweep it under the rug. They had probably done the same thing with the memory of the Sith. You see in the movies, books, and even the games how black and white the views of light and dark are. Why would they actually bother teaching their students about their most ancient enemy? Deep down they would be afraid that they would end up creating curiosity in their padawans and eventually they would turn.

Does anyone else think that the Sith Symbols for the Old Sith Empire are essentially Solar Symbols?

Solar symbols, I thought they were eye symbols, a la the eye of sauron.

That's just my interpretation of it.

Its a way of putting things.
I undersand the solar point of view, for, to the earths mind, the sun is the center of everything.
I like the idea of a eye, controling everything.
