Empress Palpatine

INTRO:
One Sith artifact was left after the second Death Star blew up. It was a little book with a black cover and a red lettering title "Diary of Empress Palpatine." No one knew that there had been an Empress, and no one knew what became of her. A scholar began the process of translating the diary. He did not proceed in the chronological order of the book because some sections were easier to translate than others. The dates and times were uncertain and could only be guessed by context. The first section was as follows:
A Hectic Day in Coruscant...
I awoke and my husband had already left for the day. It seemed he has had so much on his mind lately. He was tense but somehow excited. I sensed things were coming to a head. There had been great conflict with the Jedi. The fact that my husband was a Sith was a secret only known to me and one or two others. He always publicly tipped his hat to the Jedi although I knew how he really felt. He told me the day would come, Judgment Day. The Force would deal with them. Little did I know that today was this day.
It started like any other day, another day of war and politics. Rumor had it that the war would end soon. I decided I really had enough of talking about it all. All I was seeing was the news all day long for days. That is what everyone was doing, being glued to their T.V. sets. I wanted a break. I went out into the city to the big flea market. No one would recognize me. I put on plains clothes, just one more woman shopping in the city. Even there I saw people watching little hand held view screens to watch the latest. Everyone was talking about the war. I went over to where some very attractive looking vegetables were. I saw this lady I often see there. She was a Jedi lady from the temple who sometimes goes out for a change of pace. She often complained about temple goings on, stuff about those high and mighty council members sticking their noses in places they didn't belong. She felt that the purpose of the Jedi had become perverted. They had become carnal, power-hungry and worldly.
She had her padawan with her. She said, "I have had enough. I am leaving. I did not tell them. I just threw a few things in my speeder. We are going to a remote area where I can truly show my padawan the Force, without the corruption." I asked her why she picked today to leave. She said, "I do not know. It is just that I feel strongly that the Force said to go and to not look back. I think some sort of judgment is coming. I always knew something would happen where one has to go and not look behind them, not even return to grab your cloak." I told her that perhaps it was a wise idea.
It was well into the afternoon when I got back. I stopped by my husband's office. I handed him some particularly nice piece of fruit I bought. "Shopping today dear?"
"Yes, I was at the flea market. I just needed a break from politics."
"I think a lot of all this will be over soon, my dear," he said with a gleam in his eye.
"Why, what happened?" I asked. He told me how Anakin had come in to see him that day and that he revealed to him that he was a Sith. Anakin was the young Jedi that he was trying to win over. Unfortunately, Anakin said he was going to turn him in to the Jedi council. "That is trouble, isn't it?" I asked.
He did not seem that worried about it. He just gave that characteristic smile. He said, "I anticipated such. Do not worry my dear. I have it all in hand. I am a Sith Lord and I know what I am doing. I am in control. I anticipate the Jedis' reaction; however, I want you to go home and stay there. Things will get confrontational. I will come home to you later tonight." Little did I know that this was the last time I would ever see his normal face. He kissed me and I left.
I went home. I turned on the T.V. and went to take a shower. As the shampoo oozed down, I did not realize the big headlines being made. I still had no idea as I toweled off and put on a robe. The T.V. just had on some dumb cop show..."CSI Coruscant" I think. I sat on the couch not really paying attention. My gaze went to my husband's picture on the table. I picked it up and thought about how we met. I thought how long and hard of a day it would be today. Perhaps I should prepare a late romantic dinner. I called in the cook and said to set a table for two with candlelight and black and red roses. Have some red wine chilled. Fix some cold cuts that would taste good no matter how long the wait was. My orders were obeyed within the hour. I sat there looking at the table setting. I wondered whether it would be a celebration or a consolation. I dozed on the couch, waiting.
I don't know how long I had dozed. I was like 3 AM or so. I hope he is O.K. My gaze went to the T.V. I was shocked by what I saw. The news had interrupted regular programming with breaking news. It was the Jedi Temple on fire. There had been an attempted coop. Apparently the Jedi had attempted to take over the government. They had even attempted to assassinate the chancellor. I was relieved when they said he was unharmed.
4 AM and still he hadn't come home. What was he doing?!
It was about 4:15 when I heard footsteps and the door opening down the hall. I jumped up to dim the lights and light the candles. He deserved a warm reception.
I saw a hooded form in the doorway. I felt a strong feeling of the Force as he stood there. He stood still. Why, I wondered? Why the hesitancy? I moved towards him. His hood covered most of his face. I slowly lifted the hood and saw two glowing eyes emerge. Something had happened to his face. I stood shocked for a moment. He stood silent. He was wondering what my reaction would be. "The Jedis did this," he said. "They tried to assassinate me. This happened in the struggle." He looked down. "Am I ugly to you now?"
I looked at him. He still felt the same, only more so. He smiled at me. The smile warmed me. I did not see ugly. I just saw him. I touched his face with my hand, then his head and hair. "No, you are not ugly. Are you hurt?"
"No," he said. "I will be fine. This happens if you overdo the Force lightning." He chuckled. He seemed relieved that I did not flip out over his face change. Then he told me what had happened. We sat eating cold cuts and drinking wine. He said how four Jedi came into his office with lightsabers to arrest him. For the first time ever, he used a lightsaber and fought them. Three he killed easily. The fourth, Mace Windu, was more of a challenge. He upped the amount of Force lightning, and his body got a bit toasted. Anakin entered. Mace was going to kill him, but Anakin stopped him. Mace was then toasted and tossed. He said now Anakin was his apprentice. It was official now.
I asked him what happened to the Jedi. He told me they had to be eliminated. He had planned for it all along. He had not told me before about order 66. "I felt it would be too stressful for you to know. It probably sounds harsh."
"I understand," I said, "but why the children? Did it have to go that far?"
"The Jedis are not ordinary people," he said. "All of them are Force-sensitive, even the younglings. Don't you think the Force knows what I do and will do? I am part of the Force, a part that is embodied. It is the Force who decided who is to be judged. These it left blind and ignorant as to what was truly going on. Calamity came upon them unexpectedly. Those, who were in the will of the Force were told by the Force to leave today and never return. I suspect that a lot of kids played hooky today." He smiled. "They snuck out on an impulse, a Force-given impulse. Only some were killed."
I remembered what the Jedi lady said at the flea market. Now I knew why.
"They better also know...those who survived...not to cross me or the empire. The Force would also tell them that I rule by the Force's will."
"And you are the Force," I said as I put my arm around him. I could feel the Force charging up inside of him.
"That I am," he said, "The most mysterious part." He touched my face. I felt a tingle coming from his fingers. I saw the bluish crackle as his hands slowly charged up. I felt turned on. That which others feared turned me on. He slid one hand down my back and rested it on the base of my spine. He caused a current to shoot through my body from the base of my spine up through my head. I looked into his excited glowing eyes. I knew the remainder of the night was going to be a very good night.
