How many people in here practise a real martial arts style? How does the non-agression attitude clash with being a sith? Just thought i'd ask since I personally cant stand the attitude some arts have, like judo. I switched to karate because judo was too passive for my taste (good thing though that dad had a black belt so I could continue my training in actual judo techniques). I understand being patient but to passively wait for someone to attack is not my style. At least I can take initiative when sparring in karate

I study Wing Chun Kung Fu, Kali and Ninja. All of these styles are highly aggressive. I have, in the past, studied Karate, Judo and I dappled in Hung Gar Kung Fu and Aikido. I stopped studying the latter few because, despite all of their strengths, I found many more weaknesses. Ninja is the most complete martial art in my opinion. I would say that the "passive" ideals behind all martial arts are beneficial to Sith.
Reason: a Sith's real power comes from being in shadow, creeping behind the scenes and manipulating all around them. Being calm and seeming weak will work to your advantage. I have learned through the years that the more you brag or show off your skills, the more people want to test you. This draws unwanted attention and eventually defeat. By keeping my skills sharp, but hidden, far less people have tried to test my abilities, but those who do are very surprised after I destroy their confidence by playing with them as a cat plays with a mouse before the inevitable death.

I have been training in martial arts for ten years now... and the funny thing is I never learn to control my anger, however, I did learn to compose myself with a lot of hate in me. My anger make me strong, and it helps give me the will to do whatever it is I need to do. I could never see myself as a jedi. I really hate rightous people! But, I love martial arts.

Here I must tip my hat to you Exar Kun. You showed your self a real Darth Bane before the book came out. I say before because you have been in martial arts a long time to have mastered somany disciplines. Your tactic is the same as when Darth Bane defeated his advasary by takeing his time and wearing the person down before going for the kill.
As to me and martial arts, I never got the chance to learn that when I was young and my body plyable enough to do it. In my day when I was young my mother would not let me take martial arts of any sort, passive or aggressive because mother believed that only boys do that. In those days in America there were more lines on what girls were aloud to do and what boys were aloud to do. For healyh I do do exersizes and I am working on my own physical theoropy. I am trying to get the bucket of bolts going. I am trying to learn to use the dark side of the Force. Like Darth Bane I look at the old writtings of the ancients (of course translated) to try to learn what they know. Like the holocrone of Darth Revan, I look for the knowledge of the ancients since, at least in legond, they could really wield the Force.

Mrs. Darth Vader -
If I could be so bold as to suggest studying Tai Chi or Pa Kwa. Both are "soft" styles of Kung Fu, meaning they draw on the inner power of the practioner rather than their physical strength. Of the two, Pa Kwa is the more "martial."
Many people here "soft" style and automatically dismiss the art as something not worth studying. In my opinion, the softer styles present more of a challenge to master and also will assist in keeping the mind sharp as well as the body.

I will look into it when time permits. If you lived in the Florida west coast I would ask if you teach Ti-Chi.

For the last 21 years I have study Boxing, Kick Boxing, Judo, Karate, Chi Kung, Ikedo, Fencing and the OCF.
From all of this I have found the OCF is the best but you need to have a means of delivering the power of this art. So to make use of this you need to have another art like Kick Boxing.
Ps in boxing I have found you can really embrace your dark side.

I unfortunately never studied Tai Chi enough to teach - but I could find schools for you in your area relatively quickly and easily...

I unfortunately never studied Tai Chi enough to teach - but I could find schools for you in your area relatively quickly and easily... Thanks! How would you be able to do that? Do you have connections in Sarasota Florida? Cool. If you ever visit Sarasota let me know and we can say hello and meet.
I now understand why you want to keep the secrets from those who would be your enemy. I am learning the Sith path. People make me angry all the time so I get many chances to practice until I get it right. Deffenatly let me know when I can purchase another interesting Sith that you read about. The Darth Bane book was rich with knowledge.

Exar Kun, I thought I would add this because the above post was not clear. I would like it if you can give me the information on where there are Ti-Chi schools in my area. If you have a way of knowing this, I would like to know if the instructors are good. The reason I ask this is because I once took Kung-Fu with this person and he had us sparring far too soon. We were only white belts then. I broke my finger as a result. So that is why i asked. If you know anything else that you think usefull than let me know. Thanks

I do have some contacts in that area. I will do some checking and see what I can find for you. Full contact sparring?? As white belts?? Very sketchy...
I will try to find a school based on the traditional style. Be looking for it shortly.

I will try to find a school based on the traditional style. Be looking for it shortly. You have contacts in the area. That is good and helpfull. Thank you for looking into it. You are right. Full contact sparring. That is why I quit. I went to barns and Noble book store and purchased this re-print of a book written by Bruce Lee. In one chapter he said that you should not sparr until the green belt level. His explanation was based on students ability to not hurt each other is better at that level. When you first start any martial arts you do not know enough to do anything but get hurt. I showed it to the instructor after I broke my finger. He blew it off. So I quit figureing him to be a bad martial arts instructor. Only the experianced should sparr. This time I plan on finding the right instructor. That is where your knowledge is good. Thanks. My finger healed on its own. When I got it exrayed the Doctor said it was broken but healed. Now my tendon is in a strange spot. The doctor said it is too late and that is where it is. My finger does at least function. That is the whole story in a nutshell.

Mrs. Darth Vader-
I apologize for the delay on my response. I did some looking and calling and found an interesting school that might be something of interest. The website is www.freewebs.com/sarasotawingchun/index.htm (http://www.freewebs.com/sarasotawingchun/index.htm)
The school seems to be primarily wing chun, which is one of the styles I study. The sifu of that school is well known and very knowledgable.

Thank you Darth Opacus. I saved it in faverates so I can look at it. Do you ever go to Master Thompson's board, Ahslaknights? I ask because on one of the threads they are advertiseing a get together in 2008. Both Jedi and Sith are welcome. If I can make it, it would be cool to meat you.

I haven't been to the site in quite a while, but I will look. A "convention" of sorts would be fun.

I apologize for two threads back to back. I have been working on opening a martial arts school here in Virginia and I have been somewhat successful. I now have a class of about 15 people - always looking for more.
Anyone around my area, let me know. We may also be able to discuss some of the finer points of being Sith.

Where in virginia? I Live in Germantown, Maryland. Do you teach knife combat, besides unarmed combat? How much for the classes?

I'm in Charlottesville - about 2 hours from DC. We do teach knife combat - after basic stick work and some double stick. Classes are $50 a month, but can be negoitable based on location (gas and travel).

Is Charlottesville in or near the woods or a big city? Is it expensive there? How much is the average apartment rent? Trailor? How long is each class? Not to sound corny but I know of no other way to ask. Do you do the Bruce Lee method of no forms or do you do the conventional way with forms? I ask because I was told that one is more leathal than the other. What is the weather like there? Are you in the mountians? When did you leave England? At least I thought you were a prison gaurd in England. Unless I goofed.

Here goes:
Charlottesville is an hour west of Richmond - right next to the Blue Ridge Mountains. It can be a little expensive, depending on your tastes. It is a college town (UVA) and has a mix of "city" and "country."
I grew up in New York City - never been to England...
Classes are two hours with extra time before and after classes for one on one instruction. We do have traditional forms - but the kung fu style Wing Chun only has three hand forms to learn. Much of Jeet Kun Do is derived from Wing Chun with some things that Bruce Lee did on his own. I don't know if I would call one or the other "more deadly," it greatly depends on the skill level of the practioner. I personally do a little of both. Forms are building blocks for greater knowledge - not a set pattern. They teach proper form and position but I do not recommend using it against someone.

Thank you. It sounds like you live in a beutifull part of America. I have been through the Blue Ridge Parkway area. I always liked the Appelachon Trail area. Do you do a lot of camping as you live in one of the best areas for that? Your teaching of martial arts sounds interesting. If I ever luck out and live near you I will definatly check you out. Real knowledge is hard to find. Good luck. If I meet someone on line who lives near you I will tell them I know a good martial arts instructor.
