View Full Version : Supersticious ?
I was wondering, each and everyone of us has some kind of supersticion, but, what should be Sith way of looking at supersticions ?
Should it be a natural thing, something to be fighted and banned for it limitates the individual ? Or, even better, used in one´s advantage ?
Any insights ?

I think I am too scientific to be truly supersticious, *BUT*, whenever I know I am going to be in a lightsider religious environment, I always keep a baphomet in my pocket on a copper chain. I tend to find myself fingering it when they get really annoying. I dont think it is a supersticious thing, I just think it is more of a rebellion thing.

I personally do not have any superstitions to which I adhere, although I have found that it can be a really good tool in bending people to your will.
Ie the placebo effect or fear, both work well…
So I would recommend that any Sith should have a good working knowledge of the most frequently followed superstitions.

Sniffing out the other person's superstition and using it to manipulate them is a good Sith tactic. It is like if you were a preacher and believed none of it (no fear of Hell, etc.), but were able to manipulate the other sheep.

I don't like superstitions, I don't think they have a place anywhere, really. I think they stop people from thinking and getting the real truth, which takes some work so I can see why people like them.
What is a baphomet?
strangly enough, a baphomet is initialy a christian simbol...
a baptized in fire...a templar simbol.

Thank you. How should the sith view superstitions? Do they have any? Can they?
I supose that every mistical way of beeing in life should lead to some kind of superstition...
But i would rather have lord Seti answer that one.

(Lord Azazel-glad to see you're back.:D )
As to superstition, thats a tough one. Superstition is really in the eye of the beholder. For instance, if you are a devout Catholic, & you genuflect, making the sign of the cross, that is a "Devotion" to Catholicism. However, to the atheist, it is a superstition. To the sociologist, it is an aspect of the religion prevalent in a certain culture during a certain historical time frame. So which is it? I would say all three are valid beliefs according to each of the person's points of view.
Another similarity is between superstitions and compulsions. The American description of compulsion sounds remarkably like superstitions.
Compulsions~
~repetitive behaviors (e.g., hand washing, ordering, checking) or mental acts (e.g., praying, counting, repeating words silently) that the person feels driven to perform in response to an obsession, or according to rules that must be applied rigidly
~the behaviors or mental acts are aimed at preventing or reducing distress or preventing some dreaded event or situation; however, these behaviors or mental acts either are not connected in a realistic way with what they are designed to neutralize or prevent or are clearly excessive.

I believe "superstitions" are only significant, in the negative sense, if they interfere with a person's life. In other words, there are many superstitions that don't qualify as compulsive- but some are compulsions. I would think that Sith, Shadow, or Jedi would wish to eliminate any compulsion in their lives. So if you are washing your hands fifteen times in a row-time to see a Doctor.
I not sure if this answers your question sufficiently or not.
- Seti
Lord Seti, your answers are always clear.
But washing the hand fifteen times can indicate that you suffer from a mental disturbance...

I see any superstition as:
An irrational fear of a known or unknown based upon personal, cultural or societal bais's and or religious beliefs....
Any being choosing to reside within the actuality of non/existence is at one with the realization that all beliefs....are in fact a sort of superstition...
