In episode 3 both masters Yoda and Windu faced of with Darth Sidious, although he almost lost against Yoda (he got according to me his ass kicked in lightsaber duel but was saved by the lightning) who ive always considered to be the strongest Jedi master (except perhaps qui-gon since he learned about immortality) but still Yoda lost and Mace Windu won. Was it Sidious fakeing against Windu so that Anakin would turn or was Windu simply the better of the two?

Darth Sidious was not much of swordsman. If you watch all the duels carefully, you will see that sidious handles the weapon quite awkwardly. Sidious' main power is manipulation. Sidious knew he had to lose the lightsaber duel with with windu once anakin arrived. Yes he faked the weakness when his lightning was reflected back at him. Remember, his plan was to turn Anakin. During the fight with yoda, Sidious switched to using the force as soon as he had the chance.
Overall, I think Yoda was the strongest master. After 900 years, he should be <G>

I think Sidious wasnt faking the duel, he was obviously faking the loss of power suddenly when Anakin entered the office
Is Drath Sidious faked the loss of power, he shure managed to recover from it very fast, for as soon as mace windu turned his head he presented him with a new and fresh dose of lightning.
Im pretty shure that, as in everything else in sidious, its was a pre-programed thing, for it was there that Anaking truly gave the step into the dark side.
As for the fight with Yoda, as one can see also, Yoda admits defeat, and so he must go to exile.

Hold on guys.
Darth Sidious was a tremendous swordsmen. Darth Devious I don't mean to step on your toes there but I have read Palpatines life story and Darth Plagues taught him an art that was not only deadly, but near un-defendable (if you will let me butcher the English language there,) It was a combination of a forbidden Sith Art, the art the Count used against Anakin and Yoda's preferred art which is Akaru. Palpatine was moving FASTER than then represented, they just couldn't show it because it was stage fighting and you have to get angles and all that but the fact that Master Windu kept up is a credit to his skill.
Yes Palpatine was faking, that whole show was for Anakins benefit. It was a gamble and if Anakin choose the Light Side Palpatine would have destroyed both of them and executed Order 66 immediately.

Windu and Yoda were considered the best swordsman in the Jedi Order. I think that Sidious did "fake" his loss of power against Windu, but a fight between Yoda and Windu would have been really fun to watch.

Mace Windu is the reason I turned to the dark side.
I saw that the Jedi were just as capable of evil. The Jedi Council acted out of fear. They feared Anakin and tried to control him.
As in any tragedy, the audience is always asking "What if?" What if Yoda had told Anakin that Sidious was manipulating him (Yoda HAD to know). I think the answer to that is Yoda was the only one who truely understood that in order to defeat the dark side, Anakin had to know the dark side. After all, Anakin/Vader did fulfill his destiny and kill the Siths -Master and Apprentice (by sacrificing himself).
The one thing that never really made sense was why were the two sides trying to destroy each other? As dichotomies, their very existence depended on the existence of the other. Oh, yeah, that's what evil is.

I don't think utter destruction was ever a thought. Though Jedi and Sith are enemies, destruction would serve no purpose. Jedi wish for peace. If all Sith just "poof" vanished or left known space, Jedi would be happy. Sith want control. If Jedi said, "here you go, take control of the galaxy" bingo - happy (if there is such a thing) Sith.

Personally I felt Sidious lost on purpose to Mace because he had to be in that position at just the right time. BTW I didn't see yoda kick his ass at all the Sidious held his own throughout the battle. Although I do think yoda slightly edges him out in use of the force and saber. However Yoda is several hundred years older than Sidious so obviously he had more practice and more time to hone his skills.

Master Thompson, you read a book on the early life of Palpatine and the teachings of Darth Plagus. What is the name of this book and author? I know there are many Star Wars books but I do not know all the titles and authors. So please let me know the name of this one, thanks.
I believe Palpatines skills to be equil to if not better than Yoda. Palpatine was so fast and skilled he killed three Councel member masters in the first few seconds of the fight. Palpatine was clearly draging out the fight to draw Anakin to recruit him to the Sith. It seems the Sith value minipulation skills and direct Force use over lightsaber skills. This is implied in both Episodes II and III and the Darth Bane book. When Bane was really powerfull he used his lightsaber less and direct Force use more.

I get asked this often; I will have to dig it up and get back to you.Thank you Master Thompson. I am looking forward to your answer. Is the book an offical Star Wars book like the Darth Bane book or a fan book on line as hinted at by Darth Sidious.
Darth Sidious glad to see you back. I missed your presence.:)

Obviously Palpatine was faking it. He was only pretending so Anakin would feel bad that Mace Windu was going to kill him when he was deffensless, that way Anakin would turn to the Dark Side. You could also tell just by the way he was acting.

When Mace was looking at Anakin I noticed Sidious's fear just evaporated as he watched Anakin's reaction to the situation then switched back to begging for his life as soon as he was looked upon again.
