I just read through the Darth Maul book "Shadow Hunter" I thought the book was pretty good and all that but I have to question Mauls way of thinking in that book.
I got the impression that he wasn't a "real" sith because he didn't want to succed his master he always said like "his greatest wish was to serve his master". The way of the Sith is that the strongest must rule but Maul sounds like his way is to serve his master. Any1 read this book and has a comment?

I think the underlining idea for Maul was that he was nowhere near Darth Sidious' level, so serving the Master makes sense. It is only when your power exceeds the Master that you would even dare think of it.

And furdermore, Maul didnt had previous jedi training, like the sith disciples that came after him.
He was more like a...obidient sith hound.

Quite correct Lord Azazel,

Darth Maul was taken as a child by Palpatine. Darth Maul was raised by Palpatine and Palpatine says in his memoirs that Darth Maul was like an obedient son to him. In fact if the Sith embraced that philosophy from days of old the Jedi might have never flurished. I say you should all thank the Force that Darth Bane stepped in and changed the old doctrine to what it is now or the Sith might have never returned.

Maul was an attack dog for Sidious. You train your dog to obey without question. In the new comic, Star Wars: Legacy, the Sith have returned to the old ways and are more like the Jedi Order. One overlord with several Sith Masters that each train people to become Sith.

Exactly my idea.
Darth Maul would never be a Master Sith Lord, for i dont believe he would be killing Sidious.

yes azazel thats exactly what i meant and that means he wasnt a too good sith right? since he didnt strive to succed his master

Darth maul used Form VII as Darth Sidious did. It is suspected both of these sith
used Form IV techniques every once and a while. The sith use the original Form VII,Juyo,
while Mace Windu used his own personal variant called Vappad. If anyone wants a description of each form, they can go to wikipedia free encyclopedia and look up
Lightsaber combat, or ask me and I'll describe it here.

Concerning Maul's combat forms, Darth Draconis is right that he was a master of Juyo, & also Jar'Kai, & Teräs Käsi.

Also for those interested in the "earth bound" sources of his fighting & weapons style:

The actor Ray Park is predominantly a practitioner of Chin Woo & Wushu who studied Wushu under Kim Sen Han. His weapons style in based in Wushu. (See below)

The teachers he has studied under, & the arts he has studied are:

Dave Lea: Hapkindo

Yoke Wan Lee: Nam Pan Chuan, Chin Woo Kung Fu.

Kim Sen Han: Wushu. Emphasis on Dao Shu (Broadsword) , Chang Quan (Longfist) , Gun Shu (Cudgel) , Zui Jian (Drunken Straight Sword).

and an additional caveat. I think he was also the swordsman in "Indiana Jones: Raiders of the lost ark"
